MLB Yankee Stadium Closed Its Doors

This past Sunday the memorable Yankee Stadium was closed after the Yankees' game against the Orioles. The Yankees won 7-3 and proclaimed the ending of their participation in this stadium, which has been more than just a baseball field; it has become the home of many incredible baseball players and the place where many records were reached, besides being the home of 26 World Series Championships. The stadium's memories are just unforgettable for the most New Yorkers, the fans, former players and current team.

The Yankee Stadium is known as the "House that Ruth Built" as the baseball superstar Babe Ruth began his winning streak with the New York Yankees. The Yankee stadium was first opened in 1923 and that same day, Ruth connected the first home run. On the other hand, Jose Molina connected the last one at the closing day during the game against the Orioles. The Yankees had a record history of 4,133 victories, 2,430 losses, and 17 ties including 26 World Series titles, a record that no other club currently holds.

During the ceremony many former and memorable players were called to the field as well as the current team wearing the old uniforms. Former players like: Yogi Berra, Bernie Williams, Joe Torre, Whitey Ford, Tino Martinez, and Goose Gossage were honored amongst others. Additionally, Phil Rizzuto, Mickey Mantle, Bobby Murcer, Billy Martin, Thurman Munson Catfish Hunter and Baby Ruth were embodied by family members. Babe Ruth's daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens threw out the ceremonial first pitch to conclude what was started by her dad along with the Yankee Stadium's history.

After the game, Yankee's captain Derek Jeter expressed to the fans who were still at the stands of the Stadium the following words: "For all of us up here, it's a huge honor to put this uniform on every day and come out here and play. There are a few things with the New York Yankees that never change - it's pride, it's tradition, and most of all, we have the greatest fans in the world."

Once Derek Jeter was done with his speech all the players waved their caps and walked a final lap for the fans, who were screaming and clapping with great emotion as one of the greatest place in the baseball history was to close its doors. Manager Girardi and the players expressed that Jeter's speech was a memorable one, and the fans will never forget it as it came from the player who has symbolized the Yankees for many years and he is also a player who has achieved many records during his professional career while being part of the franchise.

We, baseball fans, hope indeed for the construction of the new stadium to start as soon as possible and that this will mean a new era of new memories for the Yankees, a team which is ready for the next year's season but the team will always remember their home stadium - the Yankee Stadium which gave them the best moments of their history.
